Australian Youth Volleyball Championships (AYVC)
The 2026 Australian Youth Volleyball Championships (AYVC) will be held in Perth from the 20th - 25th September 2026. This is where state and territory representatives compete to determine the winners of ten age divisions from U14 to U18 boys and girls.
Team Preparation
Volleyball ACT will endeavour to create a training environment that challenges athletes to continue to improve themselves as they prepare for competition in Perth. Whilst we will endeavour to create this environment, we will do so with the Athlete's welfare front of mind, establishing high quality training habits with quality over quantity.
Following on from feedback after the 2025 AYVC, Volleyball ACT will deliver an earlier trial process alongside an extended training program to prepare for the 2026 edition.

What to wear?
Athletes are expected to wear appropriate indoor volleyball attire at all trials. Suitable indoor court footwear is mandatory. Optional items such as kneepads and ankle braces are recommended based on individual preference and needs. Please note that for identification purposes, athlete numbers will be written on participants during trials, so please keep this in mind when attending.
All athletes are expected to attend all trials. If you are unable to attend any scheduled trial session, please notify the Volleyball ACT Office as soon as possible.
Selection will take place after the third trial session, with athletes notified of the outcome following the trial period. Squad sizes will be capped at 10 players to ensure that players are receiving appropriate court time in Perth, with up to an additional 4 Shadow Players selected for each squad.
What is a shadow player?
If a player is unsuccessful in making the travelling team, then they may be given to option to be a shadow. Shadow Athletes do not travel to AYVC but will continue training with their respective squad throughout the program. They may be given the opportunity to join the travelling team if a selected athlete withdraws or becomes unavailable to participate in the championships for any reason. It is not uncommon for opportunities to arise during the program for Shadow Athletes to be promoted into the travelling squad.
Shadow Athletes play an important role within the State Team Program and can benefit greatly from the ongoing training and development opportunities provided. Shadow Athletes are only required to pay a training fee of $300. Should a Shadow Athlete be elevated into a travelling team, they will then be required to pay the remaining athlete levy (less any amount already paid), in addition to applicable uniform costs.
Training
Training sessions will primarily be held on Saturdays at the Lyneham Hockey Centre, with the possibility of additional venues around Canberra to be confirmed (TBC).
Attendance at training sessions is an ongoing requirement of participation in the Represetnative Squad, and team training commitments should be treated as a top priority. As a Volleyball ACT Representative athlete, you are expected to attend all scheduled sessions, which may include both on-court and off-court activities.
If you will be regularly unavilable for training sessions, please ensure that your coach is made aware as early as possible in the trial process in order to develop a training plan. Where an athlete is unavailable for an individual session for personal reasons, they are required to inform their coach via the appropriate communication channel.

Volleyball ACT will organise travel arrangements for athletes including flights, accommodation, food, and transoport, with information readily available for families in advance of September.

Financial Levy
The athlete levy for selected athletes travelling with the team is $3,800 per athlete, plus uniform costs.
This levy contributes towards tournament entry fees, accommodation, flights, meals, coaching expenses, court hire, equipment, and other costs associated with delivering the program. Volleyball ACT understand that this is a significant cost for families and is able to provide individualised payment plans where requested. Payment Plans must be agreed to in writing with anyone seeking a payment plan asked to reach out to Volleyball ACT as soon as possible to ensure the agreement is made.
